Garage Sale planning

We are starting to work on a couple of garage sales to help fund-raise for our adoption (and help us and our friends and family clean out). I’m new to the planning of garage sale thing so have a few questions/items I could use assistance with.

  • When is the best time (date) to have them? Right now I’m thinking maybe one in  April/early May and one in June? Earlier would be ok, as long as there is potential for good sales. Are there specific dates we should look at or avoid?
  • I would like to do one in Adel, and one in the Waukee area. We have a lot of family/friends in both areas, hoping that will make donations, helpers, and buyers more varied and accessible.
  • Does anyone have a garage or other space we could use for these events?  Our place is hard enough to find for people trying to get here on purpose, and really wouldn’t work for a garage sale for a variety of reasons.  Or do you know of someplace we could look into?
  • Local friends and family, as you are spring cleaning/sorting, would you consider saving any items that would be appropriate?  Anything that can be priced ahead of time would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, if there is anyone who is willing to be a resource, help plan/organize, or even just walk me though this – I would love it! I love going to these types of events, but being on this end is a little different!

Thanks!

Thanks and Happy 2013!

We wanted to take a moment and just give a big thank you to everyone who clicked through our Amazon link this past Christmas. That simple step earned almost $25 towards our adoption costs. We really appreciate that simple step. The link remains active in case you got some money after Christmas and it’s burning a hole in your pocket.

We also wanted to thank Julie’s family who, instead of presents this year, decided to give us the gift of a fundraising pork roast later this year. Words can’t express our gratitude for this! Not only did they give something, they gave up something in order to provide it. This is truly the spirit of Christmas.

Now that Christmas is over, the homestudy kicks into high gear. We’d appreciate your prayers as we get past this hurdle. Once this is done, then our file goes to the national office for approval which can take a few weeks. After this, it goes to the US government for approval which can take 2-3 months.

While this is happening, our file is prepped to go to the country we are looking at. We are hopeful that all this proceeds smoothly and then by June or July we will be able to formally seek a referral. The referral could take 6 – 12 months but if the child is waiting (like one little boy we are praying for!) it could take less time. Once we receive a referral, then it is 4-5 months until we travel to add to our family!

Although we were told that we most likely won’t travel in 2013, we are asking God that we would be able to add our family before 2014. Will you join us in that prayer?
