Update and moving forward…

This past week has been a bit of a blur – so this update is late – however wanted to let people know…

We got our USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) approval!

We got a few more updated photos!

So now the next step is waiting for approval from the S. Korean government.

We are just over 2 weeks away from the garage sale, and we are humbled by the people who are “cleaning out” for us. Thank you!  I am thinking we may still be able to do another sale towards the end of the summer for the matching grant after all.  (I have barely begun to get through our own stuff.)  We are pulling a few of the items and will either Craigslist, e-bay or silent auction them. Don’t worry, we’ll share these items either here or on Facebook so you can see them and/or share with people who might be interested.

So that is what we’ve been up to! I know this is a bit of a disjointed update but wanted to share. As always, thanks so much for your support – whether it be prayers, listening to us share, shopping at Amazon, donating to the garage sale, answering questions, and much more.  Thank you!

Long overdue update

It’s been a crazy few weeks here – so we haven’t posted updates – so the highlights are:

  • Received notification to go to the Federal Building for our fingerprints for US immigration.  Honestly, it was a very easy and pleasant process.
  • Attended a presentation by the University of Minnesota Adoption Clinic to learn more about some of the medical issues to be aware of with international adoption.
  • Scheduled the Garage Sale for June 14th-15th.  Very thankful for a friend willing to host the sale in town where people might actually be able to find it, and for a sister who is going to help me research and price stuff! Also very thankful for all the friends who are bringing stuff and/or helping in other ways. (Please let me know if you have anything you’d like us to pick up!)
  • We’ve received two silent auction items!  Thanks to Mary Kimber for the children’s quilt and Cara Hollingworth for the tutu!  (photos below!)

Again, thanks to all those shopping through our Amazon link and sharing it with others! I finally figured out that if I save the link as my Amazon bookmark, it’s much easier! We found out that the agency that handles the the country fees will be raising their rates July 1, so we are trying to raise and pay all those fees prior to then so we can avoid the increases. It is close to the time they would have been due for us anyway, so worth the extra effort.  We would also like to thank those that have agreed to let us put their name on a mailing list for the Caring Connections Grant.  I believe we just need 3 more names – please let me know if you are willing, or ask either of us for more information.

Most of all, we appreciate your prayers – for patience, for safety for our little guy and his foster family, for expediency through the process, and that God and His work is recognized and glorified throughout this process.

Keep moving forward…

I can’t think of many times that I’d be really excited to get mail from the Department of Homeland Security – but this week we were. No, we haven’t been approved for our little guys immigration yet, but, we already received our notice to appear at the local office for our fingerprints.  (For those keeping score, this is our second round of fingerprints in the process, there will be a total of 3 rounds.)  So next week we’ll be heading downtown to take care of that. We are hoping they are processed fairly quickly and we will continue to move forward from there for the completion of our US approval so we can move on towards the Korean translation and approval.  Last week I also finished up the Show Hope (formerly Shaohannah’s Hope) grant and got that mailed off and it was received by the April 30 deadline. It will be at least 90 days before we hear anything.

Now we are working on raising funds.  For this, we are asking for help. Please feel free to get creative!  If you are looking for some ideas on how to support our adoption (or adoptions in general) Check out our earlier post How can you support our adoption (or adoptions in general).  We are also still in need of 7 family or friends willing to let us send their name in to be added to the mailing list for Bethany Christian Services to support their grant program.  Please let us know if you are willing to help us out in this way. Again, it does not mean you are required to donate, but they will send you information about their grant program.  Thank you to all of our Amazon shoppers as well!  April was our biggest month yet, we raised just over $50 in April from friends and family just doing their “regular” Amazon shopping. Thanks! We are also working on a “silent” or Facebook auction – do you know a business that might donate an item or gift card? Are you crafty or creative? We would love some help in tracking down fun items!

Thank you again for all of your prayers and support as we continue to move through this process. We are continuing to pray for an official referral by July and travel by the end of the year.
