Thank-you! (Post garage sale wrap up!)

Wow – what a great weekend! Huge thanks to all our friends and family at Harvey’s Greenhouse for letting us use their garage and thanks to everyone who came out and made this garage sale a huge success. We raised over $650 dollars with the sale this weekend which is almost enough for one ticket if airfare stays low (certainly at least 1/2 if they don’t)!

We have one last fundraiser to go (more on that in the near future, but it’s super easy!) but we are humbled and grateful to say that the light at the end of this tunnel isn’t a train but a fully funded adoption. When we started this journey almost a year ago and I thought about the amount of money we needed to raise, I was doubtful we’d be able to do it. Yet, God is incredibly gracious and He provided the resources to make this happen. And He used so many of you to do just that. So, thank you!

That said, we’re still not quite there. Like I said, we have one last fundraiser to go and a little bit beyond that to fully fund this adoption. As Christmas approaches (gasp!) and you plan to do any shopping at Amazon, will you use our link to the right? This helps us wrap up these costs and if, by chance, we receive more than we need, then we will donate the rest to an adoption fund to help another family out.

That’s enough money talk. We’re still in the waiting zone before our paperwork is submitted to the government for final approval. The good news is that once that happens, we should have a pretty good idea on when we will travel and then eventually get to have our little guy come home. In the meantime, we pray for a faster than normal submission to the government so our little guy can get here quickly. We haven’t given up hope that he will be here by the end of the year. Still, considering that we started this process almost a year ago, I have to say that I’m grateful that we’re nearing the home stretch on the process.

I leave you with one last thought to chew on which comes from Isaiah 1:16-17 –

Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes;
cease to do evil,
learn to do good;
seek justice,
correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow’s cause.

May that be our prayer for all the fatherless children around the world tonight. Thanks for joining us on this journey!

One last garage sale!

Thanks to generous donations from friends, family, and even friends and family of friends and family, we have a garage full of stuff. It is time to move it and have it find new homes!  We will be having a garage sale in the garage of Harvey’s Greenhouse and Garden Center at 611 Nile Kinnick Dr. S. in Adel (just North of ADM High School) You can find the ad on Craigslist here. We will be setting up on Thursday, September 26th from about 9:30 – 5 ish.  Please feel free to stop by, say hello and unpack a box or two!  Volunteers are allowed to shop as well!  We will be open for sales Friday from 8 until at least 5 and on Saturday from 8 until at least noon. Thank you to Harvey’s for letting us use the space! Even though it’s a fundraiser, since this is the last one, we are pricing items to go! There are plenty of housewares, small appliances, glassware, Christmas items, kids, items, clothing, books, a small kitchen drop leaf table, designer purses, toys, music, and much more available. Also, for friends not in Adel, if you like garage sales, the Adel Public Library is also having a garage sale – so two big fundraiser garage sales within a few blocks of each other may make it worth the drive.  (We love visiting the Adel Public Library they have one of the best kid areas and top notch kids programs – better than many metro libraries!) And, of course you should take in the great displays and fall items at the greenhouse while you are there.

After this sale, the majority of the items will be donated – I will only be keeping things I think I can sell on Facebook garage sale sites that will be worth the time. I’m glad we did some garage sales, but they are a lot of work!  I’ve been saying I’ll never do one again, but deep down know I will to help someone else in the future to bring someone else home to a forever family.

Otherwise – we continue to pray for quicker than normal processing of our paperwork and continue to be thankful for all of your prayers, love and support.

Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who came out for our “Pork with a Purpose” fundraiser last week. It was a huge success and we’re making our way to raising / saving enough money to get our little guy home. We’re getting so close – both to having our guy home and to having our costs covered – that we have the end in sight. And for that we are grateful!

A quick update on the overall adoption funding. Originally, we thought we would need to come up with $35,000, with $27,000 by the end of the summer. Then, in early Spring, we found out that instead of one trip, we’d need to make two, making our total closer to $41,000. We are thrilled to say that through the generosity of many people (and some a lot of frugality on our part!) that we are right now down to just travel costs. Now, travel half way around the world isn’t cheap (and we now have to double this!) but we are thrilled that God has provided for us through so many of you. Words cannot express how much we appreciate how generous you have been.

Although we are close, we are still not quite there. You can continue to shop on Amazon (use this link or the one on the left) or pick up some coffee. And we hope to have a very easy way to help us to announce very soon. Most of all, we appreciate your prayers. You can join us in prayer by:

1) Praying for a speedy trip through the government for our paperwork.

2) That we would be able to travel by the end of the year.

Pork with a Purpose – and some other updates

ImageDon’t forget that tomorrow you can join us for a very tasty fundraiser and you also get a night out of the kitchen! On Tuesday, September 3rd, you can join us from 4-7 pm at Harvey’s Greenhouse in Adel for “Pork with a Purpose” (although, let’s face it, does pork really need a purpose beyond it’s delicious main purpose?). You can enjoy smoked pork sandwiches and some fun sides with all the proceeds going to help bring our little guy home. For more information, you can click on that link above and it will take you to the Facebook page.

We would also like to thank you for all your help this past month as we hit our highest Amazon rebate. As scary as it is to consider, Christmas is just right around the corner and avoiding the mall is always a good thing. If you plan to order anything from Amazon, please don’t forget to use the link off to the right. Coffee is also a great gift and the roaster linked on the right is also a great way to help support adoption.

Finally, one of the best ways you can support us is to pray. We are praying specifically for the following:

1) For a quick approval for our paperwork.

2) An initial travel date by the first of the year.

3) Praise – we have paid off all of our actual fees and are now raising our travelling costs.

Thanks again – there is no way we could do this without all your support!
