Beyond Blessed – it’s been quite a year!

It is hard to believe that just a little over a year ago, I sent a pre-application for inter-country adoption. I felt urged to do so, even though I had no idea how we would be able to raise the funds.  A couple of wise friends reminded me that if God wanted us to adopt this way, that He would provide the funds.   Just 8 months ago we posted “Enormous“. God has taught us so much about trust, faith, and the needs of the widow and the orphan world wide over this year.   (It seems we are still working on patience.)

But this post is a celebration. We have been humbled by the sacrifices of friends, family, friends of friends and family and even strangers. We expected to sacrifice, but did not expect others to, but it was part of the learning process, bringing me “From Self to Dependence“. Yesterday we received word that our two outstanding grant applications had been funded!  We received a gift from Bethany’s Caring Connection Fund. This grant is designed to not only help with any adoption expenses, but to also help new parents of special needs kids cover additional medical expenses or costs involved in adding a special needs child to your family.  We also received a matching grant from Brittany’s Hope. This matching grant will require us to raise funds for their organization, and in turn help fund future adoptions of special needs kids!  Once we receive all of our information (over the next few weeks) we will be able to set up a link for anyone who would like to donate.  Once it goes live — look for a challenge!  We are hoping to do a blog and social media share and ask for 200 people to donate just $10! (Please wait until our portal is set up and we are able to post a link.) The best part, is once this is done – we should be fully funded, including initial medical expenses!  About 1/3 of our total expenses have been met through grants (we received a Show Hope grant during the summer).

To say we feel blessed would be an understatement.  Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement, moral and financial support.

Our current/continued prayer requests would be:

  • Praise for God’s provision over this year – for us, for our supporters both known and unknown
  • Quick and accurate processing of our paperwork
  • Wisdom as we prepare for little guy to physically join our family
  • That little guy has peace about the process
  • For little guy, his foster family, and his birth mother as the adoption nears
  • That we are continued witness, foremost for Christ, but also for the cause of adoption
  • That we would be able to travel sooner than expected.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,  to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

A week of blessings!

One thing that God has taught me over the years is that He knows what you need at any given moment and usually sooner than you even know that you need it. Such was the case this past week.

It actually started last weekend when we received a gift from a dear friend that helps us draw closer to fully funding the adoption. We are prayerfully waiting to hear on two grants, but really feel like we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We’re not there yet, but if you had asked me a year ago if we would raise enough not only to cover the adoption expenses but also throw in an extra trip on top of it, I would have said “no way.” God has again reminded me that He knows what it will take to get our little guy home and He will provide. We are so grateful that so many of our friends and family have heard God’s call and joined us in this journey!

And yet, that is not all of the blessings we had this week. On Thursday, our agency emailed us to say they posted some new photos of our little guy to their website. We learned that he seems to like chocolate cake, playing on the computer and he is turning out to be quite the handsome young man! Considering that he is now 4 1/2 years old and the first photo we saw of him was him at 2 1/2 to 3, he sure looks to be growing up fast. Seriously, it is such a blessing to get these glimpses into his life as we prepare to have him join our family.

Still, that wasn’t all that we had this week. We also received a process update from our agency that contained great news. As we mentioned previously, right now we are in line for submission to the other government. That process is moving along and it looks like we will be part of one of the next couple of groups to be submitted. So, as we continue to pray that our approval will go smoothly and quickly, it looks like God is already at work, answering those prayers. We are so grateful for your prayers for this process to go smoothly and quickly.

It was a very encouraging week and God has worked in some pretty incredible ways. I know we’re not done yet and we still have a long road ahead of us. But we know that this road has an end where our little guy joins our family. And we can’t wait!

Please continue to pray for:

  • The two grants that we are waiting to hear about.
  • The quick and successful processing of our paperwork.
  • That we would be able to travel soon.
  • That we would be a positive Christian witness and for the cause of adoption both here and as we travel.
  • That our little guy would adjust well once he officially joins our family.

If you would like to financially support our adoption, you can check out the links to the left. And we are grateful for all your help!
