It is hard to believe that just a little over a year ago, I sent a pre-application for inter-country adoption. I felt urged to do so, even though I had no idea how we would be able to raise the funds.  A couple of wise friends reminded me that if God wanted us to adopt this way, that He would provide the funds.   Just 8 months ago we posted “Enormous“. God has taught us so much about trust, faith, and the needs of the widow and the orphan world wide over this year.   (It seems we are still working on patience.)

But this post is a celebration. We have been humbled by the sacrifices of friends, family, friends of friends and family and even strangers. We expected to sacrifice, but did not expect others to, but it was part of the learning process, bringing me “From Self to Dependence“. Yesterday we received word that our two outstanding grant applications had been funded!  We received a gift from Bethany’s Caring Connection Fund. This grant is designed to not only help with any adoption expenses, but to also help new parents of special needs kids cover additional medical expenses or costs involved in adding a special needs child to your family.  We also received a matching grant from Brittany’s Hope. This matching grant will require us to raise funds for their organization, and in turn help fund future adoptions of special needs kids!  Once we receive all of our information (over the next few weeks) we will be able to set up a link for anyone who would like to donate.  Once it goes live — look for a challenge!  We are hoping to do a blog and social media share and ask for 200 people to donate just $10! (Please wait until our portal is set up and we are able to post a link.) The best part, is once this is done – we should be fully funded, including initial medical expenses!  About 1/3 of our total expenses have been met through grants (we received a Show Hope grant during the summer).

To say we feel blessed would be an understatement.  Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement, moral and financial support.

Our current/continued prayer requests would be:

  • Praise for God’s provision over this year – for us, for our supporters both known and unknown
  • Quick and accurate processing of our paperwork
  • Wisdom as we prepare for little guy to physically join our family
  • That little guy has peace about the process
  • For little guy, his foster family, and his birth mother as the adoption nears
  • That we are continued witness, foremost for Christ, but also for the cause of adoption
  • That we would be able to travel sooner than expected.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,  to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
